Legal Cannabis in Tenerife: The Social Club Route, Explained
First, what's actually legal
In Spain, personal use of cannabis — possessing a small amount for personal consumption — is not a criminal offence; it's an administrative matter that can bring a fine. Public consumption is also sanctioned, and fines can be significant. Driving under the influence is treated seriously. The legal environment around cultivation and private consumption is where the nuance lives: what happens in a person's private space is largely protected.
Where social clubs fit in
Social clubs grew out of that private-space argument, shared. A club is a non-profit association whose members vote to cultivate and consume collectively, inside their own premises, for personal use, away from the public eye. Courts have generally accepted this model when clubs genuinely stick to association rules: closed membership, personal use, adults only. It is a tolerated grey area enforced by the clubs' own discipline — not a shop.
What gets people in trouble
Almost always public consumption and possession in the street. Buying from another person is illegal, full stop. Presenting a club card won't help on the pavement — the law treats what's public as public. The safest rule in Tenerife: everything stays at the club. Enjoy the association you joined; don't carry, don't consume in the street, don't wander around with a bag of the stuff.
How a visit card works, honestly
When you buy membership through Mr Chong'z, your payment is recorded as a visit card and your purchase is a 1-of-1 digital collectible — not an offer of admission. Membership makes you eligible; the door decides, in person, with ID. That honesty is part of why the model stays on the right side of the rules: nothing here is a ticket to anything except a chance to be considered.
Three rules to leave with
One: inside only, never public. Two: personal use only — it's for you, as a member. Three: respect the premises, the staff and the neighbours; discretion goes both ways for the whole scene. Follow those and the social-club route through Tenerife is calm, social and easily the most sensible one available.
